| Q: How can Olivio Premium Spread be labeled No Trans Fat when it contains
partially hydrogenated soybean oil?
A: According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) foods that contain less than 0.5g trans fat per serving can claim to have “Zero trans fat” or “No Trans Fat”. For an oil to remain solid at room temperature it must either contain enough hard (saturated fat) to maintain stability or a minimal amount of hydrogenation or some partial hydrogenation. Since saturated fats and tropical oils are both high in cholesterol and have been linked to coronary heart disease we avoided using those oils in our product. Instead, we chose to add a minimal amount of partially hydrogenated soybean oil to the product. It is our feeling that the low level of saturated fat combined with the benefits of having olive oil as a key ingredient and the resulting higher levels of monounsaturated fat make Olivio Premium Spread the best possible choice in the spread and margarine category.
You can read the FDA labeling guidelines on their website at: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/flg-6a.html
Q: How can Olivio Buttery Spray have zero calories and zero fat when the ingredients lists have such items as Olive and Soybean oil?
A: The Nutritional Facts are based on a serving size. The service size of 5 sprays contains such a small amount of calories and fat that it can be labeled as “zero" or "free" according to the FDA Labeling guidelines.
Q: Can Olivio be frozen?
A: Yes! All Olivio Products can be frozen!
